We are pleased to welcome The Rev. Sharon Sheridan Hausman back to Christ Church starting on July 5th to lead worship during Mother Diana’s sabbatical. Mother Sharon is a gifted preacher and will work alongside Deacon Jackie from July – Mid-October.
Mother Sharon is a lifelong Episcopalian and a graduate of Drew Theological School with a Master of Divinity degree. She was ordained to the priesthood at our parish in 2019, and covered Mother Diana’s last sabbatical.
Mother Sharon is a volunteer chaplain at Northern State maximum-security men’s prison in Newark, where she preaches and assists in leading the Protestant choir, worship services and Bible studies; and at the Mountainview prison in Annandale, where she teaches a creative-writing class to young adult men. She also is a member of our diocesan Prison Ministry and coordinates children’s visits to their parents in the Essex County jail and a new monthly Saturday arts and science enrichment program in Newark for children of incarcerated parents. As a Drew student, she volunteered in the state women’s prison in Clinton and in the Essex County and Morris County jails.
Mother Sharon also has worked for many years as a reporter and editor for both church and secular publications. She lives in Flanders with her husband Paul, cats Sasha and Sushi, and an anonymous goldfish. Their son, Carl, is a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio, where he majored in music composition and math.
