On Wednesdays, come to Christ Church for our labyrinth walk featuring meditative music, with a hint of incense, in the candle lit church from 7-8pm. Following at 8pm will be a short service – Evening Prayer or Compline, depending on the week.
The labyrinth is an ancient symbol, used in several European cathedrals in the middle ages. Christians had a goal in life to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, but the trip for most was (and is) too expensive, and in that day, too dangerous. The path itself is a single one designed to allow the walker to walk a pattern that focuses the mind and soul on the moment. Often, walkers will repeat a prayer, sometimes it is the Jesus
Prayer “Lord Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” The Jesus prayer is a short formulaic prayer that allows the one praying it to meditate, often while moving prayer beads. Walkers will sometimes remove their shoes, but that isn’t necessary (though, if you are wearing high heels, we would ask that you remove those to protect the wood).
Stop by any Wednesday for the labyrinth, the service, or both! For more information, see the Rev. Diana Wilcox.
