Pentecost is the ending of the fifty days of Easter. We celebrate the Holy Spirit descending as flames of fire upon the earliest followers of Jesus, and that is why this is often referred to as the birthday of the church. The Holy Spirit is often depicted with images of a dove, but also of fire, and so we wear red on this day to honor the Holy Spirit, whose work within and around us sustains and guides us in our life of love and service. This is one of our High Holy Days, so join us here at Christ Church for this festive service.
