Fifth Fridays – Starts May 31!

We are launching a new and fun event this year called “Fifth Fridays.”  This will be a potluck at the church starting at 7:00pm, where one of our parishioners will share something they are doing outside our church walls that is a reflection of their faith journey.  Our first one will be on May 31st, and will feature one of our Vestry members, Michelle Ryndak, PhD.  The information about her, and her presentation, is below.  Join us for an informative and engaging evening.

“Tuberculosis: Then and Now, Here and There”
Fortunately, most of us do not think about tuberculosis (TB) except as an historical malady depicted in our literature and the arts; however, you might be surprised to know that in recent years, more people have died worldwide from TB than any other infectious disease, including AIDS. I will give a talk about TB in the world today and the challenges it presents. Expect to hear some science (for the layman) and leave with an awareness of our blessings.

About Michelle:

Michelle joined Christ Episcopal Church just over two years ago, and is happy to call Christ Church her spiritual home. Michelle is a research faculty member at the NYU School of Medicine where she studies tuberculosis. In her work, Michelle also mentors and collaborates with scientists from India to facilitate tuberculosis research in an area of the world where it is much needed.
