Funerals

Dear friends,

Most planning for funerals, especially the worship service, is done by the family of the deceased within the first few days after the person’s death.  It is a very  busy and emotional time and it can be quite difficult to give thoughtful consideration to the details.

It is important to remember that you need only contact two individuals when planning a funeral – the funeral home of your choice, and the Rector, Mother Diana.  Worship service planning, including the date and time, is set in consultation with these two people.  The service itself is planned in a meeting with Mother Diana, which she will hold with the family.  She will provide suggestions for appropriate scriptures & hymns, go over the liturgy with everyone, and answer any questions the family may have about the service.

We also suggest Five Wishes®, a program developed by Aging with Dignity that creates a legal document that takes the place of a living will.  Five Wishes® lets your family and doctors know:

  • Who you want to make health care decisions for you when you can’t make them.
  • The kind of medical treatment you want or don’t want.
  • How comfortable you want to be.
  • How you want people to treat you.
  • What you want your loved ones to know.

Yours in Christ,
