Marcia Griffiths  marcia griffiths

Born in Jamaica West Indies Marcia started her singing career in 1964. She performed with many groups including Byron Lee and the Dragonaires. In 1974 she teamed up with Judy Mowatt and Rita Marley to form The I Threes. They went on to be the back up singers for Bob Marley and toured the world. After Bob Marley’s death in 1981, the I Threes separated, each taking on a solo career. In 1989 Marcia recorded what would become a hit that still dominates every affair especially here in the US – “Electric Boogie” aka, “The Electric Slide.” In 2004 Ms. Griffiths was awarded the Order of Distinction by the Jamaican Government for her contribution to the music industry. Ms Griffiths continues to make music and to avail herself and her musical gifts to events such as this.

Judy Mowatt

At the age of 15, Judy was the leajudy mowattd vocalist of a trio called the Gaylettes. The group soon broke up, when the other two singers migrated to the US. Judy continued writing songs and performing under pseudonyms including “Juliann.” Her encounter with Marcia Griffiths gave birth to the I Threes and a very rewarding career.   During her travels as a member of The I Threes, Judy released a single called “Black Woman,” followed by “ Only a Woman.” Her Black Woman album (1980) is considered by many critics to be the greatest reggae album by a female artiste. It was also the first reggae album recorded by a woman acting as her own producer. She became the first female singer nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of reggae music when her Working Wonders album was nominated in 1985. The death of Bob Marley, was the event that moved her to become an ambassador of Christ. Ms. Judy Mowatt was awarded the Order of Distinction by the Jamaican Government in 1999.

Joan Myers

Joan soon was asked to join The Grace Thrillers, one of the most celebrated gospel groups in Jamaica. They travelled extensively performing a variety of gospel music. She has received many awards for her talent, but her biggest desire is to win souls for Christ with her music.
